WITB: The clubs Jason Day used to win the Farmers Insurance Open

JASON DAY PREVAILED WITH A BIRDIE ON THE SIXTH PLAYOFF HOLE TO DEFEAT ALEX NOREN AND CLINCH THE 2018 FARMERS INSURANCE OPEN.

Both players were locked in horns throughout Sunday afternoon at Torrey Pines, but couldn’t be separated after 77 holes and needed to return on Monday morning to the South Course to resume an intense sudden-death match.

Now an eleven-time winner on the PGA Tour, Jason Day, made quick work of the 16th ranked player in the world, Noren, who looked like he was on route to his first victory across the other side of the Atlantic.

After taking 3-wood off the par-5 18th tee, Noren took on a 250-yard shot, over water, to apply the pressure on the Australian who had found the right rough with his drive but found the water just shy of the dramatic 18th green.

From 105-yards it was easy work for Day to close out the championship with a birdie and a tip of the cap to the nearly empty Monday morning crowds.

With the win Jason Day became the second player to win multiple playoffs on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines, joining Tiger Woods as the other.

Day who struggled last season and at the start of the week form back injuries notched his first victory since in 259 days at then2016 Players Championship.

Having been a Taylormade loyalist for his professional career, it was the first win for the new TaylorMade M3 driver since its release in January 2018.

This season has already witnessed victories for Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm who played the M4 drivers in both the Hawaii and California stretch, but fellow Taylormade staffer Tiger Woods had the M3 in full swing.
