Martin Kaymer has revealed that he was meant to play at the RBC Heritage this weekend on the PGA Tour but has changed his mind because of where the Spanish Open is being held.
The former US Open champion went on to say that winning at Club Valderrama is one of the courses you want to win at during the career of a professional golfer, including ‘Wentworth and St Andrews’, and that he ‘wanted to give it another go’.

Kaymer told Sky Sports: “I was supposed to play Hilton Head the week after the Masters but then I heard that this tournament was coming to Valderrama, so I thought ‘I have to come here’.
“It is a very nice golf course. It is so about ball striking. You need to hit fairways and small greens. You have to be very strategic and I really enjoy that. I’ve done well here in the past too so those are all good reasons to come back.
“It is a golf course you would like to win on during your career. Valderrama, Wentworth, St Andrews. These are the core of the European Tour, so I wanted to give it another go.”
