Jim Furyk was at Harbour Town Links to hit the ceremonial past champions tee-shot, to start this weeks’ RBC Heritage tournament.
Unfortunately, this will be the only shot that the defending champion will get to hit this week. Furyk announced in February that due to his bone contusion in his left wrist, which he suffered back in September last year, he would be sitting out of the tournament and all competitions for a further 3 months.
On Monday Furyk told Golf Channel:
“I’d love to play sometime in May. We’ll see how soon that will be, I need to make some progress in the next couple of weeks”.
This time last year the American was part of the field competing at Hilton Head and was ranked 10th in the overall world golf rankings. However, throughout 2015, the 45-year-old has found it difficult closing out tournaments, after holding strong leads after 54-holes. In 2015, Furyk went 0 for 9 in his nine previous starts before his breakthrough on Hilton Head.
Speaking to RBC Heritage media at last year’s event Furyk said:
‘”It meant a lot to me [winning last year]. I hadn’t won, since the Tour Championships in 2010. I had come close a couple of times but couldn’t get over the hump”.

On many occasions, Furyk has stated that the RBC Heritage is on of his favourite tournaments on the PGA TOUR, and will greatly miss not playing this week.
“The course has an intimate feel; It’s one of the best we play on tour. It’s not overly long, but it’s a shot-makers course. You have to hit te ball high, low and with draw or fade. If you can’t move the ball out there you can’t compete”.
