‘Speith victory would be bad for golf’

Colin Cowherd has said it would have been terrible for golf had Jordan Spieth not blown a five-shot lead at Augusta, according to Golf Digest .

Danny Willet won his first major at Augusta after being five shot behind leader Jordan Spieth.

Spieth had led all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday and until the 12th hole on Sunday. He had made four birdies in a row on the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth to lead by five shots, but after bogeying the 10th and 11th.

The American then stood on the 12th tee and hit his ball into the water. The 22-year-old then put his chip shot in the water and eventually scoring a quadruple bogey which handed the championship to Willet.

Formally at ESPN, Cowherd told his show: “You know what I think about Jordan Spieth?

“I’m finally interested. ‘Cause now he’s got texture. He choked. I hate using that word. He choked.

“And now he’s interesting. Now he’s vulnerable. Now he’s layered. Now he’s textured. Now, Jordan Spieth, next year at The Masters, 12th hole, leads by two strokes. I’m in on that.

“Jordan Spieth took an early lead Thursday. He led Friday. He led Saturday. He led Sunday.

“The ratings I’m looking at, nobody cared. He collapsed. Spike. Oh, it got interesting. For the first time in Jordan Spieth’s amazing career, he’s got texture.”
