Garcia on Willet’s Masters victory

Sergio Garcia says it was ‘awesome’ to see Danny Willet wear the green jacket at Augusta on Sunday afternoon.

Garcia told Sky Sports that he was a little bit tired mentally last week in Spain. He said “I slept quite well the last couple of nights but yes I am a little bit… mentally, I wouldn’t say drained, just tired I guess. I thought Augusta played great, the way it’s supposed to play, I mean you guys could see how difficult it was playing.”

The Spaniard continue on to talk about Danny Willet. He said: “It was awesome, I actually played with him in the first three rounds and he was playing great, he has been playing great for a while now but more than anything he was very calm, very collective.

“He looked like he that kind of week where he could go south, he would make a great up and down here or there, he would make a nice key putt which kept the rounds together so it was nice to see.”

Garcia added that Augusta does not give you anything and what happened to Jordan Spieth can happen. He said: “It can happen, though. That course (Augusta) doesn’t give away anything.

“I think that once he got to the first tee, 95% of people thought the tournament was pretty much over. But then you make a couple of bogeys at the difficult 10 and 11th holes and you get on that 12th tee and you feel like you have to force things a little bit so it means instead of going for the middle of the green and making a three, your thinking it’s only a wedge, I can be a bit more aggressive and go for the pin, you just come out of it a little bit then your in the water. Then your head is working on overdrive because your thinking I have to hit this one close, your thinking so many things that it happens unfortunately.”
