Rory McIlroy is full of confidence heading into the Dubai Desert Classic, which starts tomorrow, and according to a report on the Irish Times he has a ‘spring in his step’ with a first win since September 2016 in his sights.
The Northern Irishman is looking for his first in just over 480 days and will be challenged by current Masters champion Sergio Garcia.

Garcia is also the current holder of this competition, but McIlroy is confident that he can lift the title this time as he missed out last year due to a rib injury.
McIlroy has a very impressive record in this competition as he has managed to win it twice in his career, with the Northern Irishman eyeing a third this year.
He said:
I feel like I’ve got a bit of a spring back in my step because of what happened last week and I’m very confident in myself. I’ve won here twice. Dubai is a place that I’ve gotten to know very well. It’s a place I love to come back to.
It’s always one of the highlights of the year for me to come and play here with the memories that I have. I’m looking forward to getting back out there on Thursday and trying to give myself another chance to win.
McIlroy endured a winless campaign in 2017 but has worked hard over the winter months to regain his form for this tournament and he is pleased with the progress he is making.
The 28-year-old has now recovered fully from his injuries and is looking forward to an important year in his career.
