Woods feeling good after Torrey Pines outing

Tiger Woods is reportedly feeling in good shape after a strong showing in the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines last week.

Whilst his driving and iron-work was largely poor, there is reason for optimism for Tiger Woods.

Primarily, that his body held together over four days. At 42 years of age, his ability to make it through tournaments without medical issues is getting slimmer by the day. However, four days of hitting the ball out of thick California rough would be enough to put most in bed for a week, but Woods felt so good he ended up hitting extra balls on Sunday evening.

Secondly, his short game put to bed any fears his issues chipping the ball around the green might be terminal.

Thirdly, on the greens themselves he was very good. Finishing in the top 20 for strokes gained whilst putting is a very good sign that a comeback might finally be on the cards.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign is his clear enthusiasm for golf, even after all these years of substandard play. He clearly wants to come and play in these tournaments, which is much more than could be said about his attitude in tournaments gone by.

From here, Woods is expected to enter as many tournaments as possible before the Masters in April, on the off chance he’ll get a berth to compete in Augusta. An appearance in Georgia must surely be considered a success for a man so far removed from the days in which he conquered all before him.
