Ryder Cup captain Bjorn to partner Solheim Cup captain Matthew at GolfSixes

The inaugural GolfSixes event last year garnered plenty of attention, and it seems set to generate similar hype this year.

The quick form of the game involves pair matches being played over just six holes, meaning games can be over in as little as a an hour.

For this year’s edition, the respective captains of Team Europe will come together to play as a pair.

Thomas Bjorn is the captain for Europe in the Ryder Cup, with Catriona Matthew the skip for the Solheim Cup.

The Swedish Bjorn leapt at the chance to join his opposite number:

When the opportunity arose to play as Ryder Cup captain, I thought if we are going to move forward then it was only right to speak to Catriona as the Solheim Cup captain,

We’re both really looking forward to it.

European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley was also enthused about the idea:

If you have Thomas Bjorn and Catriona Matthew playing, first of all it helps the Solheim Cup which is fantastic, it also helps the Ryder Cup brand and the combination of men and women playing together gives us an opportunity to widen our fan base.
