Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo to make PGA Tour debut

As the upper echelons of the golfing world have headed to Austin for the World Match Play, the best of the rest have descended on the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship.

Among them, will be sponsors’ exemption – and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback – Tony Romo.

He’s not just here for the ride though – the CBS Sports analyst is bringing the same competitiveness he brought to the gridiron to the golf course.

The 37-year-old said:

I’ll be treating it very serious,

My wife will tell you she hasn’t seen me much over the last month. But if you know me at all, I think you know if I care about something, I’m going to commit to it 100 percent. So like I said, you’ll get the best I’ve got this week.

Alongside him will be such major winners as Jim Daly, Angel Cabrera, Geoff Ogilvy, and Graeme McDowell.

This is the first year the Corales Puntacana Championship has been a PGA Tour event. Two previous renditions in 2016 and 2017 were affiliated to the Web.com Tour.

Making the cut might be a tall order for Romo, but he’s not treating this as a star-studded holiday:

What I’ve done over the last few months has really been the same thing that I did in football when I was young and starting off. What do I believe in? What’s my blueprint that I’m going to follow? You’ve got to believe in something, then you’ve got to go attack it.

Golf obviously wasn’t my sport most of my life, but I’ve put a lot of time in preparing for this. I’ll be prepared to play the best that I’m capable this week.
