Ian Poulter keeps Masters hopes alive

England’s Ian Poulter kept his slim hopes of competing at next week’s Masters alive after carding a superb second-round 64 at the Houston Open, the Telegraph report.

Poulter is currently on seven under, four shots behind clubhouse leader, 23-year-old Beau Hossler.

American pair of Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler are breathing down Hossler’s neck ahead of the weekend’s play, with just eight shots separating the 90 players who made the cut.

The winner of the event earns a place at Augusta, with Poulter just missing out on a place at the Masters during the World Golf Championship Matchplay last week.

Poulter was told he had done enough to make the tournament after making the last eight but was then informed 10 minutes before his quarter-final match against Kevin Kisner that he actually needed to reach the semi-finals to ensure his place and then lost 8&6 to the American.

The Englishman will be desperate to follow up his second-round 64 with another strong performance as he looks to sneak into the Masters.
