Ian Poulter took a huge step in securing his place at next week’s Masters after following up his second round eight-under-par 64 with a seven-under-par 65 in his third round to leave him tied for the lead at the Houston Open, Sky Sports report.
The winner of the event earns a place at the first major of the year, with the Englishman knowing only victory will be enough to book his place at Augusta, after failing to make the semi-finals at last week’s WGC Matchplay which would’ve earned him a place at the Masters.

The 42-year-old is on 14 under alongside American Beau Hossler going into day four, two shots clear of four players sitting on 12 under, including Ireland’s Paul Dunne.
Poulter, who was last victorious at a tournament back in November 2012 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China, would’ve been the outright leader heading into the final round, however, Hossler birdied the last to ensure he was also at the front with Poulter.
It would be a sensational effort if Poulter can claim victory in Houston, especially after the Englishman carded a 73 in his opening round.
