Mickelson and Woods to play practice round together at Augusta

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are to undertake a practice round at Augusta National, ahead of the Masters this week.

In the 13 years between 1997 and 2010, the pair made for seven of the green jackets that were won in those years – so it’s unlikely they’ll have much to discover about the storied links in Georgia.

Woods commands 14 major championships to Mickelson’s five, and despite their “rivalry” during the early stages of their careers, a friendship seems to have blossomed in recent weeks.

With their careers rebounding, Mickelson won his first title since 2013 at the WGC-Mexico Championship last month, and Woods finished in a strong second place at the Valspar Championship in Florida.

Another reason for the warming of relations between the two despite the similar stages of their careers, has been the presence of the pair on the US Ryder Cup team.

As two of the most popular players in American golf, a victory for either Woods or Mickelson at Augusta this week would generate a great deal of excitement amongst a section of golf fans who long for Tiger’s dominant years.
