Rory McIlroy has called upon the memory of two of his favourite victories in golf, that has seen his friends win assorted silverware.
Remembering two particular Masters tournaments, the Irishman spoke of the great surge in emotion caused by Sergio Garcia’s 2017 glory at Augusta.
Taking 20 years as a professional goal in and amongst golf’s best to secure a major championship, the playoff success Garcia clinched at the expense of Justin Rose was one to treasure for McIlroy.

One of his closest friends on the tour, Rory reacted as a companion might:
I cried,
I cried! I was so happy for him.
In addition to Garcia, McIlroy admitted to feeling very pleased for Adam Scott when the Australian won a green jacket in 2013.
After blowing a four shot lead on the back nine on the last day of the British Open just a year earlier, the 28-year-old McIlroy was delighted to see Scott clinch vindication.

With McIlroy all too familiar with letting a fourth round lead slip (most notably the 2011 Masters), the four-time major champion related to that championship victory:
I’m a big redemption person,
I’m big on someone winning who deserves it.
I thought that was awesome,
