Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is excited at the prospect of Adare Manor hosting the 2026 Ryder Cup, if given the green light, the Daily Express report.

The course, which had been closed since early 2016 as designer Tom Fazio reshaped the set, recently re-opened and is thought to be one of the favourites to host the world famous tournament.

McIlroy, along with fellow Irish greats Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Shane Lowry were invited to the re-opening of the Adare Manor course near Limerick.

McIlroy and McGinley took on Harrington and Lowry in a mini tournament where the winners won €350,000 for their chosen charity and the runners-up received €150,000 in front of around 1,500 Adare Manor members and guests.

Talking after the re-opening, McIlroy said:

To play a Ryder Cup in front of your home fans would be a dream come true and hopefully one day it will happen. it would be great for Adare and it would be great for Limerick.

The Northern Irishman also brushed off any suggestions of a Masters hangover, labelling the tournament as a success despite slipping off the pace during the final round.
