Tiger Woods confirms return to British shores as he’ll compete at The Open
Tiger Woods has confirmed he will be play at The Open at Carnoustiein in July, according to a report from ESPN.
The veteran did not play in any of the majors in 2016 and 2017 because of back problems which forced him to undergo multiple surgeries.
He returned to competing in majors in April of this year where he competed at the Masters.
Woods confirmed his return to tournament, through The Open’s Twitter page. He said:
I won two of my Open Championships in Scotland and the other one in England, so let’s try and add another one in there!
His return to The Open will be his first appearance at the British-based event since 2015, where he missed the cut.
Woods has three career victories in the event, with the last coming in 2006 at Royal Liverpool, and in his two appearances at Carnoustie, he has finished seventh (1999) and 12th (2007).
His return has been praised by the likes of Padraig Harrington, who believes that Woods can win at Carnoustie.
As reported by The Courier, Harrington said:
I actually think his chances of winning are good. I think his chances of winning a major are maybe better than winning a regular event. There wouldn’t be too many people wanting to come down the stretch against Tiger Woods. There would be a lot of people you’d rather be facing because you know in that situation he’s a person who can get the job done.
