Simpson seven clear at Sawgrass
Webb Simpson continued to dominate in Florida and will take a seven-shot lead into the final round of the Players Championship, Sky Sports report.
Simpson followed up his course record-equalling second round 63 with a four-under 68 which leaves the American on 19 under.
The American’s nearest challenger is New Zealand’s Danny Lee on 12 under, two clear of world number one Dustin Johnson at Sawgrass.
It was a better day for Tiger Woods however, who carded a superb third round seven-under 65 to leave him on eight under alongside a cluster of players including the English pair of Ian Poulter and Tommy Fleetwood.
Woods fired his career-best round at Sawgrass and like Simpson’s second-round, looked set to break the course record of 63 when he made his eighth birdie of the round at only the 12th hole.
However, the former world number one couldn’t quite continue his dominance down the back nine and had to settle for a marvellous 65.
