Dustin Johnson and Andrew Putnam tied for the lead at St Jude Classic

American’s Dustin Johnson and Andrew Putnam are in a share for the lead heading into the final round of the St Jude Classic, Sky Sports report.

Johnson, who is looking to go back to world number one just before the US Open with a win in Memphis, carded a third-round 65, with Putnam shooting a six-under par 64.

Johnson, 33, lost top spot in the world rankings to compatriot Justin Thomas, who is not taking part in the tournament.

Putnam, who has never won on the PGA Tour, matched the best round of his short career on Saturday and was delighted talking to the media after his round.

It’s going to feel a little different than a typical Sunday round of golf but I’m excited. I’ve earned my way here.

The pair are currently on 15 under for the tournament, with their nearest challenger being Stewart Cink in third, who is five shots behind on 10 under.

It appears to be a two horse race for the title in Memphis, unless veteran Cink can produce a memorable Sunday performance.
