Tiger Woods refuses to alter schedule to make WGC-Bridgestone

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational is something of a treasured tournament for Tiger Woods.

Having won the event eight times at the Firestone Club in Ohio, the 42-year-old is eager to get a final shot at glory in what will be the competition’s final year in existence.

Woods has been enjoying a comeback season on the PGA Tour this year, a second placed finish at the Valspar Championship in Florida signifying a resurgent titan of world golf.

Performances have been inconsistent in 2018 for Woods though, and as a consequence he may fail to qualify for the WGC-Bridgestone in August.

However, that won’t prompt the 14-time major champion to change his schedule.

Woods said:

It’s one of my goals to try and get in there, because I have won it eight times,

The thing is I have to really try and remind myself that what I’m coming back from with this — the injury that I’ve had and the procedure that I’ve had. I don’t want to play too much, but I need to play enough.

The back surgery Woods had over the winter would have sidelined most players, but this all-time great is trying to find new ways to get round the course in his present condition:

I’m trying to find something that I can feel again like the swing of the putter, getting my body in the right positions and seeing the lines again,

It’s just one of those things, once I start to get that ball rolling on my lines, then I’ll be back to putting like I was. I just have not been rolling it on my lines. And then on top of that, when they don’t roll on lines, then I have a hard time seeing my line and it’s a vicious cycle and just trying to get out of that cycle.

Woods will play the Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac this week, then travel to Scotland for The Open in three weeks time.
