According to reports from Golf.com, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson are planning on facing off in a 18-hole Matchplay event, with the winner taking $10 million.

The event reportedly almost took place earlier this month, however the negotiations between all parties couldn’t quite be agreed and therefore the highly anticipated face-off didn’t go ahead.

Earlier this week, Mickleson admitted the pair are working on organising the event for the future, which would be a first in the sports long and prestigious history.

We’re working on a different date.

The excitement that’s been going on around here, it gets me thinking: Why don’t we just bypass all the ancillary stuff of a tournament and just go head-to-head and just have kind of a high-stakes, winner-take-all match. I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round.

Woods, who has been looking back to his best in recent months following a long term back problem, played a practise round with Mickleson at the Masters which brought in a lot of interest.

The pair were also on the golf course together a month later at the Players Championship, which again drew in big crowds and gave Mickleson the idea of making golf history.
