Tiger Woods’ road back to the top of the golfing world is long, winding, and shrouded in frustration.
A second placed finish in the Valspar Championship in Florida is the high-point in a season coming immediately after significant back surgery for the 42-year-old, and to even be on the course seems to be an achievement in itself.

Wanting to challenge for majors again however, Woods is far from happy.
His hunger to get back to the top of the pile in world golf was evident at a corporate event prior to The Open in Scotland this week, where Woods was quoted as saying:
I can’t control you,
The only thing I can control is I.
Now, if I do this more efficiently than you, if you get intimidated, that’s your own f***ing issue.
With 14 majors to his name, Woods admitted he thought his time might be up at golf’s most prestigious events:
There were definitely points in time that I certainly thought I’d never play in this championship again,
It’s great seeing it on TV, but it’s even better in person. I remember how it feels to come down to the last hole with a chance to win it.
And knowing that I may never have that opportunity again, there were some times in there where I just didn’t feel very good.
But now to have the opportunity to come back to Carnoustie to play here in Scotland again, I’ve said this before throughout this year, it’s been a blessing.

Having made the cut at a major only twice since 2014, involvement in the final two days would mark a significant step on the journey Woods is currently undertaking.
