Tiger Woods didn’t expect to contend for a major title this year
Tiger Woods has admitted that he did not expect to be challenging for a major title this year following his comeback to the sport, according to a report on the Telegraph.
Woods almost produced one of the best comebacks in the history of golf during the PGA Championship but he just fell short and had to settle for second place behind Brooks Koepka.
Just over one year ago, Woods could barely walk following surgery on his back and there were fears that he may never return to a golf course again. However, he has defied all the odds and is now back on the hunt for his first major victory since 2008.
The 42-year-old never even imagined that he’d be in this situation and is enjoying every single moment.
He said:
I was in contention in the last two majors and would never have foreseen that a year ago and I’m just so thankful to be here.
I didn’t know what my schedule would be. I didn’t know how many tournaments I would play this year, or if I would even play. So each tournament brought about its own challenges.
At the beginning of the year, if you would say I would have a legit chance to win the last two major championships, I’d say with what swing? I didn’t have a swing at the time. I had no speed. My putting was OK but God, I hadn’t played in two years. So it’s been a hell of a process for sure.
Woods lost the PGA Championship by two shots but is now brimming with confidence. He promised to improve after a disastrous display at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational just a week before the PGA Championship and he fulfilled his promise.
