Nick Faldo: Tiger Woods said he’s “done” with golf last year

Nick Faldo has made a sensational claim that he overheard Tiger Woods stating his desire to give up golf at the Masters Champions Dinner last year, according to a report on the Sporting News.

Six-time major winner Faldo revealed that he heard Woods saying “I’m done” to another champion during last year’s dinner.

The event is only for past Masters winners and the chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club.

Faldo said:

I know he whispered to another Masters champion, two Masters dinners ago, ‘I’m done. I won’t play golf again,’. He said, ‘I’m done. I’m done, my back is done.’

He was in agony. He was in pain. His leg, the pain down his legs, there was nothing enjoyable. He couldn’t move. If you watched footage of him, he couldn’t even get in and out of the golf cart at the (2016) Ryder Cup when he was a vice-captain.

Woods has had four back surgeries since 2014 and was struggling to walk last year and he himself admitted that he did not expect to be back in contention for a major trophy so soon after making his return to the sport.

Woods has reiterated on many occasions that he is thankful to be playing golf again after the numerous problems he has suffered in recent years but he has been surprised by his two top-six finishes at major championships this summer.
