Henrik Stenson will need a wildcard berth if he is to make Europe’s Ryder Cup team this autumn.
The Swede has appeared four times in the Ryder Cup, and has been victorious on two occasions – in 2006 in Dublin, and in 2014 at Gleneagles.
A frustrating season will see Stenson finish outside the automatic spots for team selection, but the 42-year-old has seen positive elements to his game in 2018.

Speaking to Reuters Stenson said:
It’s not really been the week [at the Wyndham Championship] we wanted, but I had a good spell on Friday, hit some really good iron shots,
I’ve been struggling on the greens for a few weeks so it was nice to roll a few in.
At least a little part of what we left out there the first three days, we got that back in the final round.
A tie for 20th in South Carolina will have done little to improve Stenson’s ranking, and as such it looks increasingly likely that captain Thomas Bjorn will have to spend a wildcard pick should he want the 2016 Open champion on his squad.
Stenson will have competition though, with fellow European titan Sergio Garcia also vying for a wildcard spot.
