Despite grabbing a one-shot lead after the third round of the Made In Denmark, Lee Westwood has played down his chances of competing at this year’s Ryder Cup, the Telegraph report.
The 45-year-old shot a solid round of 67 on Saturday, which featured five birdies in a row on the back nine, leaving him one shot clear of Belgian Thomas Detry and fellow Englishmen Jonathan Thomson and Steven Brown.

If selected to play in Paris at the end of the month, Westwood would equal the record of appearances for Europe with 11, but the Englishman is ready to act as a vice-captain at Le Golf National to Thomas Bjorn.
When asked about his chance of being selected as a wild card, Westwood said:
Why would he want to pick an old man like me? It’s all about the young players.
Listen I’ve played in 10 matches and I know when my game’s really on and ready for the Ryder Cup and I think there are candidates more worthy of the pick than me.
A win in Denmark on Sunday would give Westwood his 44th professional win of his career, and his experience on the big stage as vice-captain could prove crucial for Europe in Paris.
