Woods surpassed own expectations in making Tour Championship

The PGA Tour Championship will kick off on Thursday, and amongst the field will be Tiger Woods.

A year ago, almost no one would have expected the 42-year-old fresh from spinal surgery to be here – not even the man himself.

Open only to the top 30 money leaders from the PGA Tour, the week has an exclusive feel about it.

To get to East Lake Golf Club in Georgia, you need to have a good season. In a press conference (quoted by Sky Sports), Woods admitted he had played some quality golf:

I think the season itself has been amazing,

To be able to have played this well after coming off of what I came off of. I didn’t know how many tournaments I’d play in, and next thing you know, here I am in the Tour Championship.

There’s some guys that can’t say they’ve accomplished that, have got into the Tour Championship, but to have come back from where I’ve come back from and to get here has been a pretty tall order and something I’m proud of.

Woods has won the Tour Championship twice before, in 2000 and 2007. Only he and Phil Mickelson have won the best-of-the-best tournament more than once.

Woods’ resurgent season has catapulted him to 21st in the world golf rankings; a list that saw him bumped down to 1193rd in November of 2017. Quite the turnaround.
