Phil Mickelson has revealed that he believes Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of all time, according to a report on the Golf Monthly.
Mickelson is most definitely a legend of the sport but he clearly holds Woods in high esteem for all his achievements during his successful career.
Both players are preparing to battle for $9m at Shadow Creek this Friday in what is promising to be an intriguing contest.
Woods has won 14 Majors during his career, which is the all-time second best behind Jack Nicklaus who has 18.
When asked about Woods, Mickelson said:
Greatest of all time. That’s an easy one for me.
I’ve seen him do things with a golf ball that’s never been done; the performance at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach is the single greatest performance in the history of the game of golf, and possibly all of sports, and he continued to play that way for a number of years.
Woods won the US Open at Pebble Beach by 15 strokes, which is the largest winning margin in Major history.
The American can be argued to be one of the world’s greatest ever sportsmen and he has worked himself back to the top of the game after a challenging few years.
