Wyndham Clark And Scottie Scheffler Set For U.S. Open Final Pairing At Shinnecock

Wyndham Clark will take a six-shot lead into the final round of the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, with Scottie Scheffler joining him in Sunday’s final pairing. The official USGA update confirmed Clark sits at seven under after an even-par 70 on Saturday, while Scheffler’s 69 moved him into the group at one under alongside Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens.

The scale of the gap gives Clark clear control of the championship, but the identity of his nearest challenger keeps the final round alive. Scheffler, the world No.1, is chasing the one major still missing from his career Grand Slam and will have direct sight of Clark from the opening tee.

Shinnecock gives Scheffler one last route back

Clark’s advantage was built on survival as much as scoring. The USGA report noted his clutch up-and-down pars and the only eagle of the week at the par-five 16th, a sequence that turned a difficult Saturday into a commanding platform.

Scheffler, though, has already shown he can move against the course. He played the back nine in 32 on Saturday and admitted he will need “a really nice round” to catch Clark, according to the official USGA championship report.

That makes Sunday less about a normal chase and more about pressure management. Clark is close to a second U.S. Open title, but Scheffler’s presence beside him means Shinnecock still has one heavyweight duel left.
