Wyndham Clark has banked a record US$4.5million after winning the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, with the championship purse rising to US$22.5m. The American completed his second national championship victory in four years on Sunday, and the financial scale of the win has sharpened the aftermath of a dominant major week.
The payout places Clark at the top of the richest U.S. Open distribution yet, with the total fund up by US$1m and the champion’s cheque increasing by US$200,000 from last year, according to a DP World Tour prize-money breakdown.
Clark’s Shinnecock Win Now Carries Extra Weight
Clark’s victory was already significant on sporting terms. A second U.S. Open title moves him into a much smaller major-winning group, while the Shinnecock setting gave the performance a hard edge after four demanding rounds on one of American golf’s most exacting venues.
Sam Burns finished second and earned US$2.43m, while Tom Kim collected US$1.53m for third. Scottie Scheffler, J.T. Poston and Keith Mitchell shared fourth place, each receiving just over US$920,000.
For Clark, the number matters because it underlines how quickly his major record has changed. He is no longer simply a one-time U.S. Open winner with a point to prove. He leaves Shinnecock with another trophy, a record payday and a much stronger claim to being one of the defining American major players of this era.
