Tiger Woods’ incredible performance at the Valspar Championship in Florida over the weekend drew some considerable attention.
The publication of NBC’s ratings was rated at 5.11 – the highest viewing figures for a non-major PGA event since the Players’ Championship in 2013.
Online, the event became the most-streamed PGA Tour event ever.
It seems the possibility of a return to winning ways for Tiger Woods was enough to draw in a huge amount of American golf fans.
Woods hasn’t won an event since 2013, after back surgery accompanied a bad loss of form for the former world number one.

With an astonishing 79 PGA Tour wins to his name, at 42 you’d be forgiven for thinking Woods might not add to many more – but if he can emulate the kind of golf he played in Florida last weekend, he may yet make it to 80.
If he can, it seems that his success will provide a commercial attraction as well.
